Here are the top five stories today in Dallas-Hiram:
- An air quality alert has been issued for Dallas, Hiram, and Paulding county. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division has issued a Code Orange air quality alert that will be in effect until at least 10:00 tonight. Children, people who are sensitive to ozone, and people with heart and lung conditions should avoid being outside for too long. (AccuWeather)
- Georgia's attorney general is leading an active investigation into local rooftop solar companies. After the FOX 5 I-Team did a hidden camera story on Georgia families who claim they were "ripped off" by solar panel companies, the government stepped in to investigate. Some of the companies the I-Team looked into operate in Paulding County. While the specific solar companies under investigation have not all been named, one of the known companies is Pink Energy in North Carolina. (Fox 5)
- Hiram High School is looking to fill new teaching positions for the 2022-2023 school year. The high school is looking for teachers for IRR Math & Gen Ed Math and has various Assistant Coach positions available, as well. - The Paulding County Fair concluded last weekend by crowding its king and queen! Claire Schweller and Kyle Mobley were crowned 2022 Queen and King during Monday night's closing ceremony, with Junior King and Queen going to Jacob Wobler and Mara Philpot. Prince and Princess named were Jerrimah Sajuan and Brielle Schlatter. (West Bend News)
- Paulding County Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs' FUNdamentals Flag Football Camp is off to a great start! - The annual Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive for Paulding County School students in need is July 16. Community partners are requesting donations of backpacks for all age groups - especially elementary - and basic school supplies like filler paper, pencils and pens, folders, binders, etc. Donations may be dropped at West Ridge Church on July 16 from 9:00 a.m. - noon. - The New Georgia Public Library will have art and the STEAM Engine at WGRLS today at Family Fun Summer Day! The events start at 1:00 pm. (New Georgia Public Library via Facebook)
