Heather Brewer, author of the Chronicles of Vladimir Tod book series for young adults, visited this fall to reward the students for winning the Scholastic Book Fairs National Middle School Contest. The contest tries to get schools to promote their book fairs with creative competitions, advertising campaigns and other activities. The school also received a $2,000 voucher from Scholastic.
McClure's winning effort occurred last spring when students re-created Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the school library with giant chocolate bars, gumball machines, a chocolate waterfall and Willy Wonka's boat, among other displays.
