Recycling Program Termination FAQ

Due to continued excessive contamination with recyclable pickups, rising costs for recyclable

processing and the low global demand for materials, it has become more difficult to supply our 

customer base with timely and consistent recycling service.

The City of Hiram City Council voted that effective April 1, 2022, the City will terminate its 

residential recycling program.

Frequently Asked Questions:

When should I expect a change in my service?

Our current contracted service provider will pick up your recycle on March 8th and March 22nd as 

currently scheduled.

Can I use my blue bin (recycling can) for garbage?

No, your recycle can is to only be used for the next two recycle service dates and should only 

include allowed recycle items.

What should I do with my recycle can?

All recycle cans should be left at curbside after the last service date on March 22nd.  This will 

allow access to the can to be picked up by a third party contractor. Cans will be picked up over 

the course of March 22nd and March 25th.  Please allow the can to remain at curbside until picked 

up.

What if I am a backdoor customer?

We are asking that even if you are a backdoor customer to please place your can at the curb either 

before or immediately after being serviced on March 22nd to allow for pickup.

Will my garbage bill decrease?

No, your billed amount for sanitation pickup will remain the same as there has never been a fee 

charged for your recycle service.

Is there anywhere else that I can take my recycling?

Paulding County offers a County Recycling location at 65 County Services Lane, Dallas 30132. For a 

list of items accepted and hours of operation visit, www.paulding.gov/196/Recycling or call 770-443-0119

Can I make changes in my service to accommodate my extra garbage?

Yes, you can contact our office (770)943-3726 ext. 2001 or 2009 to add an additional can at

the rate of $11.00 per month or $33.00 per quarter.
