Colo. Woman Visits Ga., Wins $1M in Lottery

She was visiting her 96-year-old mother when she bought the winning ticket in Bremen, Ga., in August.

A Colorado woman visiting her 96-year-old mother in Georgia won $1 million in the Powerball Lottery in August.

Judith Newcomb of Golden, Colo., matched the first five winning numbers from the Aug. 29 Powerball drawing to win the big prize, the Georgia Lottery announced.

The winning ticket was bought in Bremen.

Newcomb, 69, claimed her prize recently at the Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

“I was in total disbelief,” she said. “Marty, my husband, is the one who checked my ticket. ...

“I’m filled with thankfulness, gratefulness. I’m extremely grateful.”

Newcomb has no immediate plans for her winnings, but said she declared that she’d win the lottery the day she purchased the ticket at Swifti Serve, located at 2002 Alabama Ave. S. in Bremen.

“I bought the ticket and put it in my billfold,” she recalled.

The winning numbers from the Aug. 29 Powerball drawing were: 18-21-25-28-29 and the Powerball was 16. Powerball tickets are $2 per play.
