- The City of Dallas held a City Council meeting yesterday evening to discuss several items of old and new business. Council members revisited the proposed 90-day moratoriums on R3 rezoning applications and group/personal care home applications, as well as a moratorium for R2 zoning. They also considered several items for approval, including a one-year agreement for the 2023 Paulding County-Wide Shoulder Maintenance Contract, as well as two contract approvals for local improvement projects. - Gather your BFFs and support your local small business community this Friday, Feb. 10, at the "Be My Galentine" Downtown Shopping Night event. From 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., several Downtown Dallas vendors will be offering special discounts, themed food and drinks, photo ops, a pop-up flower cart, and more. Participating businesses include Kitsch & Color, Tin Bucket, 213 on Main, Basic to Boujee, Vintage Wine Bar, Good Stuff Coffeehouse, Sale's Pizza, Gina Wade Real Estate, Delicious Belgian, Wonderland Party Plan, and the Dallas Markets. - The Paulding County Board of Commissioners received one of 20 Georgia action planning grants for improving roadway safety as part of the Biden-Harris Administration's new Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program. The state's grants were part of the $800 million in grants awarded across the country this week, announced U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The SS4A Grant Program will provide $5 billion over five years for regional, local, and Tribal initiatives to prevent deaths and serious injuries on America's roadways, including redesigned roads and improved sidewalks and crosswalks. - The Paulding County Sheriff's Office announced yesterday that retired K-9 officer Major passed away at the age of 15. Major, a beloved German Shepherd, began working with the Sheriff's Office in 2009 and served for nearly a decade before retiring in 2018. Officials say he had been involved in "numerous felony apprehensions and many narcotics seizures" during his career, and many local law enforcement and community leaders took to social media to express their condolences. A memorial will be placed outside the Sheriff's Office in honor of Major. (11Alive)
