  1. The City of Dallas will be holding several important meetings coming up next week. On Monday, Feb. 6, there will be a City Council work session (4:00 p.m.) and regular meeting (5:15 p.m.). Then, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Downtown Development Authority will meet at 4:00 p.m. Agendas for each meeting will be posted on the City's website as they get closer. (City of Dallas Georgia)
  2. Last week, five students from Hiram High School's Hiram Academy of Computer Science came in third place at the SkillsUSA Regional Competition for Quiz Bowl. This annual event gives students in specialized education fields the opportunity to put their technical skills to the test in dozens of career competitions. The group will advance to the state competition at the Georgia World Congress Center, being held Mar. 9 through 11. (Hiram High School via Facebook)
  3. In honor of Black History Month, the Dallas Theatre will be showing two free movies that celebrate important Black Americans and their stories, next Saturday, Feb. 11. At 4:00 p.m., the theater will show "Hidden Figures" (PG, 2016), followed by "42: The True Story of an American Legend" (PG-13, 2013) at 7:00 p.m. Admission is first-come, first-served until capacity is reached and concessions will be available.   4. In a Facebook announcement posted on Saturday, the Rotary Club of Dallas Georgia announced that it has officially been dissolved. However, the Club said its members are still giving back to the community in various ways. A representative noted on Facebook that the group would be meeting tomorrow, Jan. 31, at 278 South (3716 Atlanta Hwy, Hiram) at 5:30 p.m. for anyone interested in getting together.   5. In case you missed it, we have more details on the Hiram daycare owner who was arrested on Wednesday for the alleged assaults of five children. Authorities say Lipsky's arrest was the result of the execution of a search warrant after an anonymous tipster informed authorities about the video recordings of the assaults and she is currently being held in the Paulding County Jail without bond. According to officials, the children's ages ranged from 8 months old to 3 years old. (Dallas-Hiram Patch)
