  1. Georgia's lawmakers are catching up with the community and becoming more diverse. On Jan. 9, there were 85 lawmakers sworn in who are of Hispanic, Black, Asian, or Arab descent. Republican Sen. Jason Anavitarte of Dallas and Republican Rep. Rey Martinez of Loganville formed the Hispanic caucus to capture Latino voters, but four of the seven Hispanic lawmakers are Democrats. To solve this, Democrat Rep. Pedro β€œPete” Marin of Duluth and Anavitarte are trying to work together to create a more bipartisan approach. (US News.com)
  2. According to the Paulding County officials, Sergeant Jared Gunter and good Samaritans helped get a driver to safety after her car stalled in the middle of Highway 278 near Highway 61 on Jan. 10. Gunter and the other citizens helped the driver, Cassandra Dunn, push her car to a safe area. Dunn’s car was moved from one of the busiest highways in Paulding County, according to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office. (WSB-TV)
  3. Yesterday afternoon, Jan. 10, firefighters were able to extricate a man who was trapped in an overturned tractor-trailer at North Burnt Hickory Road and Connally Trail near the Paulding County line. The driver was then airlifted from the site of the incident to a hospital. Both the Georgia State Patrol and the Department of Public Safety are investigating. (11 Alive)
