Dallas Woman Arrested After Custody Exchange in Cobb County

A custody exchange in Mableton turned violent Friday night, and one man was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital.

According to a Cobb County criminal warrant, Lisa Marie Stansell of Dallas had just dropped off two juveniles at a home in the 6100 block of Blackhawk Trail around 8:35 p.m. Friday when an argument started between Stansell and Danny Griffin. 

The driver's door still open, Stansell allegedly put the minivan in reverse and accelerated at a high rate of speed, records show.

"The driver's door was in motion to hit the juvenile female and Mr. Griffin placed himself in the path of the door and pushed the juvenile female to safety," authorities wrote in the warrant. "The door of the minivan hit Mr. Griffin in his back and he was then attached to the opened door."

Stansell, according to the warrant, kept driving, "dragging Mr. Griffin on the roadway along side the minivan."

Griffin became detached from the minivan when Stansell drove off the roadway and near a ditch where a boy was standing. The juvenile, who jumped to safety, was not hit.

Stansell was not done, according to the warrant.

"Accused then stopped the minivan and set the gears from reverse to drive," authorities wrote in the warrant.

That's when a female reached into the driver's area of the minivan to prevent Stansell from driving. However, her efforts were unsuccessful and she was also drug along the road for a short distance, records show.

Stansell fled the scene, but turned herself in at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, where she was booked just after 2 p.m. Monday on a felony charge of aggravated assault. She was released today on a $6,000 bond.

Griffin was transported to WellStar Cobb Hospital with minor injuries.
