GA Gas Prices: Steady Last Week; Declines in Forecast

Gas prices in Georgia remained relatively steady last week, AAA said, as prices nationwide fluctuated and increased slightly.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline Sunday in Georgia was $2.15, the same as the previous week, according to AAA data. Prices were $2.26 one month ago and $3.30 a year ago.
The national average of $2.29, up a penny from last week, was the lowest average on Oct. 4 since 2004.

βGas prices fluctuated during the past couple of weeks, because gasoline demand is unusually high at a time when refineries are entering their maintenance season,β AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in the groupβs weekly fuel price briefing. βFortunately, the slight upward pressure on prices is typically short-lived and gasoline should get cheaper through the end of the year.β

Gas prices remain relatively inexpensive compared to recent years due to the low cost of crude oil, AAA said. WTI oil prices averaged $45 per barrel last week, about half of last yearβs price. Oil supplies also remain abundant in the United States with commercial stocks about 28 percent higher than a year ago.
Gas prices are forecast nationally to average $2.20 this month, $2.10 in November, and $2.03 in December, AAA said.
The lowest price reported Monday in Dallas on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $2.11.
