Here are the top five stories in Dallas-Hiram today:
- Hiram High School and the City of Hiram will host the annual Homecoming Parade next Wednesday, Sep. 7, at 5:00 p.m. Motorists are advised that the event will likely cause traffic delays. Individuals with questions about the parade route or who wish to learn more about how to show off their Hiram spirit are advised to contact Hiram High School. (City of Hiram via Facebook)
- Don't forget to register for the Family Read-Aloud Parent Training on Tuesday, Sep. 13, at 6:30 p.m. This virtual training is hosted by the New Georgia Public Library and focuses on the benefits of read-aloud books for kids. - A Paulding County woman hosted a community event in honor of International Drug Overdose Awareness Day on Wednesday, Aug. 31. DeAnne Turner, who lost her 28-year-old brother to an overdose in 2021, hosted the event to honor his memory and educate community members about the dangers of drugs, especially fentanyl. The event featured information on substance misuse, a Narcan demonstration, and several guest speakers. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- The Paulding County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department invites you to an evening of fireworks and live music from Chuck Martin and the Lineup on Oct. 1. The event will kick off at 5:00 p.m. and include a cake walk, hula hoop and limbo contests, cornhole, and more. Bring your chairs and blankets and enjoy the festivities at the Pole Barn in Taylor Farm Park. (City of Dallas Parks & Rec. via Facebook)
- The "grocery store" has returned to the Family Learning Center at the Dallas Public Library! This educational playroom is open during regular library hours and can also be reserved for activities such as homeschooling and tutoring.
