Here are the top stories today in Dallas-Hiram:
- In Powder Springs a horse named Whiskey tragically passed away after being rescued from an eight foot deep creek on Friday morning. Horse owners and the Large Animal Response Group from Douglas, Paulding, and Cobb counties came to the scene to help free the animal. Although Whiskey received the best medical attention possible, the injuries sustained during the ordeal proved fatal. The reason behind how the horse got stuck in the creek remains unclear. - Providence College basketball player Alyn Breed, who hails from Powder Springs and graduated from McEachern High School, has been arrested and suspended indefinitely for allegedly pointing a gun at his girlfriend during an off-campus domestic dispute. The 21-year-old junior guard is facing multiple firearm and domestic charges, as well as a charge for driving without the operator's consent. Breed averaged 4.8 points and 18.5 minutes per game this season as the Friars earned a No. 11 seed in March Madness 2023. (New York Post)
- Vice President Kamala Harris is set to visit Dalton on April 6 to highlight the Biden-Harris Administration's efforts to create a cleaner economy. During her visit, Harris will tour the Qcells plant, where the administration plans to discuss ways to create clean energy and good-paying jobs. Qcells is expected to spend nearly $2.5 billion on a new plant in Cartersville while expanding the capacity of the current facility in Dalton, which is projected to bring 2,500 jobs to the state by 2024.
