Latest Paulding County Coronavirus Update

Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is affecting Paulding County:

PAULDING COUNTY, GA β€” The new coronavirus outbreak in Georgia and across the nation continues to affect Paulding County, where schools are closed for the rest of the academic year and businesses remain shuttered in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths in Georgia continues to rise: 5,444 total on Thursday, 1,129 hospitalized and 176 dead. At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports Fulton County's 747 cases are the most of any Georgia locality, with 23 deaths recorded. The highest number of deaths is in Dougherty County, with 30; its total number of cases rank second at 521. The next highest number of cases are in DeKalb with 409 cases, Cobb with 341 cases, Gwinnett with 303 cases, Bartow with 153 cases and Carroll with 139 cases.

PAULDING COUNTY CASES: NO DEATHS

Paulding County has been spared thus far with no coronavirus deaths recorded as of Thursday evening. However, four more coronavirus cases have been recorded since Tuesday, bringing the total to 35.

SCHOOLS

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp Wednesday ordered all schools to stay closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of the academic year. No Digital Learning Days will be held during spring break, still scheduled for April 6-10. Paulding County Schools will continue to offer Lunch to Go for its students with food pickup on April 15 and April 22, both Wednesdays, with CAYA Ministries filling in the gaps. CLOSURES

The City of Dallas has closed all offices and facilities until April 6. Court Services, Cultural Arts, Business Licenses, Building Inspections, and Parks and Recreation are operating as needed. City officials plan to reevaluate the situation this week to determine if closures should continue. For the latest information on Dallas, visit the city website.

In Hiram, city hall is open but lobbies and drive-through windows are closed until further notice. Also, the Hiram City Council meetings set for April 14 have been moved to May 5.
