- The new monthly My Little Library bags are now available for pickup at any Paulding County Library location. The September bag is the last in the Planting Literacy series and includes a copy of Lola Plants a Garden, as well as supplies for a DIY sponge sprout houses craft. Bags are designed for children up to 10 years old and are limited to one per family. (New Georgia Public Library via Facebook)
- Attention Paulding County School District parents: the grace period for students who do not have an approved free/reduced meal application for the 2022-2023 school year will end soon. Applications must be received, processed, and approved prior to next Monday, Sep. 12, for students to continue receiving meal benefits without interruption. - There is still time to register for the 17th Annual Lamar Hunton Memorial Ride, which will take place on Saturday, Sep. 24. The ride will start at the Paulding County Sheriff's Office at 10:00 a.m. and end at the Pineland Youth Home in LaGrange. Lunch will be provided, and there will also be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. (Paulding County Sheriffβs Office via Facebook)
- A new Georgia state law on screening K-3 students for dyslexia goes into effect next school year, and Paulding County School District officials are already preparing. Last Friday, the district invited dyslexia expert and long-time special education educator John Connor to speak to 400 elementary teachers about how to implement structured literacy practices that meet the needs of all students. The talk reinforced PCSD's project of implementing evidence-based literacy instruction in all its classrooms, which has been in progress over the past several years.
