  1. Paulding County School District leaders broke ground Thursday on the site for the district's tenth middle school campus. The new middle school project near the Seven Hills Connector is expected to open in August 2024 and provide capacity relief for McClure Middle School. The Board of Education will initiate a process to name the new school next year. (Paulding County School District)
  2. Paulding County deputies have arrested a suspect in the murder of a Dallas teenager that occurred on Sep. 24. 17-year-old Carson Nathanial Kennedy of Carroll County turned himself in to authorities after allegedly shooting and killing the victim at a home in the Southern Oaks subdivision. Kennedy has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Paulding County Jail without bond. (Paulding Neighbor)
  3. Highland Rivers Behavioral Health has been awarded a $750,000 grant to support suicide prevention efforts for veterans in nearby Cherokee and Pickens counties. The grant is awarded by the Veterans Administration and is renewable at the same amount for three years. Coalition leaders say it will help local veteran support organizations develop a multidisciplinary rapid response team for those in crisis. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
  4. The Dallas Theater is looking for local businesses to sponsor free community movie screenings. Several movies have already been scheduled for the upcoming season, but there are still plenty of chances available to host a showing on the big screen.   5. A new report reveals that the housing supply in the Atlanta metro area has tightened because banks and other investors are buying up homes. According to the report, more than 6 percent of single-family homes in Paulding County are currently owned by such investors. Douglas and Henry Counties are among others where experts say these practices are "contributing to rising housing costs." (Georgia Law News)
