Here are the top stories in Dallas-Hiram today:

  1. Marcus & Millichap has facilitated the $19.8 million sale of Douglasville Town Center, a 272,785 square-foot shopping center in Douglasville. The buyer was an out-of-state private investment firm, and the seller was a private capital partnership. Douglasville Town Center includes tenants such as BuggyBusters, Rogers Mechanical Contractors, Andy's Wholesale and Cobb Douglas Community Services Board. (Shopping Center Business)
  2. Katherine Koonce, the head of The Covenant School, was among the six people killed in a shooting in Nashville on Monday. Koonce was described as a smart and loving female leader within a male-led religious culture. She received her master’s degree in education from Georgia State University in Atlanta in 1995. The other victims included three 9-year-old children; Cynthia Peak, a substitute teacher; and Mike Hill, a custodian. Friends and family of the victims remembered them as loving and devoted to their faith. (WABE 90.1 FM)
  3. The Georgia General Assembly has passed a controversial bill to create a new disciplinary board for the state’s local district attorneys. The bill proposes the creation of a prosecuting attorney's oversight commission to review complaints lodged against prosecutors and to impose penalties, including removal from office. Supporters argue that the oversight will provide a better chance of getting rid of bad district attorneys, while critics, including Democrats, argue that the plan removes prosecutorial discretion and undermines democracy by silencing local voices. If signed into law, the commission will adopt the rules for the new disciplinary board. (GPB News)
  4. A new study has suggested that the frequency of killer tornadoes and hailstorms will increase as the world warms, with such supercells shifting eastward to strike more frequently in the Southern states of the U.S. The study predicts a nationwide 6.6 percent increase in supercells, and a 25.8 percent increase in the area and time of the strongest supercells, under moderate levels of future warming by the end of the century. The study suggests that the hotter, drier Southwest of the U.S. is contributing to the trend, with air from the Gulf of Mexico getting juicier and unstable. (Fortune)
