🌱 Paulding Co. Woman Charged With Murder + Hiram's Leo Parker Honored

Here are the top five stories in and around Dallas-Hiram today:

  1. A Paulding County woman has been arrested and charged with murder after she allegedly tried to stab multiple children while their house burned down around them. On Friday evening, authorities were called to the 700 block of Woodwind Drive in Rockmart, where they reportedly found 40-year-old Darlene Brister attempting to stab the other occupants of the residence. Seven children were found in the home; two were pronounced dead on the scene and a third later died at a local hospital, said police. Brister has been charged with two counts of malice murder, and officials have indicated that more charges are likely. (Dallas-Hiram Patch)
  2. Earlier this month, Hiram's own Leo Parker, the City's Public Works Superintendent, was honored by the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of the 2021 Horizon Award. Each year, the Horizon Award is given to a nominee who has demonstrated "integrity and leadership among their peers and in the Paulding community," served as a mentor for the leaders of tomorrow, and has actively exemplified "a commitment to the future improvement of the community," according to the Chamber. Parker received the award during the Paulding Chamber of Commerce Gala on Jun. 11. (Press Release Desk )

Today at 5:00 p.m., the Dallas Public Library will be hosting a registration-based DIY beach jewelry class for adults. Tomorrow, Hiram - Maude P. Ragsdale Public Library will have storytime (ages 3+) at 11:30 a.m. Later in the week, Hiram will also host a Babytime event and a YA for Adults book club meeting, both on Jun. 30.   • This weekend, the Honoring Heroes Foundation hosted the Cars for K-9s Car Show and Community Event at Hardy Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC. All of the money raised went toward the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Memorial, the Powder Springs Police Department K-9 Unit, and the Austell Police Department K-9 Unit.
