Here are the top five stories today in Dallas-Hiram:

  1. After the 2020 elections, the elections supervisor in Paulding County, Deidre Holden, said she's trying to restore voters' faith in the upcoming election. Holden said, "What we're up against is proving that we are conducting these elections with integrity and transparency, and we are doing what's right. We're spending a lot of time putting out fires instead of doing what needs to be done, which is serving our voters and doing our jobs." (Subscription: The Lawton Constitution)
  2. Atlanta News First Investigates asked educators if they would feel comfortable using a gun to stop an active shooter, and 55 percent said yes. Although, one Paulding County teacher said, "The idea of introducing firearms at schools frightens me to the point of resigning if it gets into effect." Another Paulding County teacher said they do not want to be armed in school but would feel comfortable using a gun to stop an active shooter. The teacher said due to all the responsibilities of educators at school, "the distractions prevent me from being a responsible carrier while on school property." (WRDW 12 26)
  3. The Toledo Police Department released the check safety call yesterday of 71-year-old Nancy Lewton. The caller was her niece, who lives in Dallas, GA. Lewton had traveled from Dallas to Toledo, but no one had heard from her since leaving Dallas. The officers found her son, 31-year-old Travis Lewton, at the house and his mother dead in a ravine behind the house. The son is charged with premeditated aggravated murder. (13 ABC Action News)
