  1. On Thursday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency and activated 1,000 National Guard troops. The declaration follows a response to ongoing violent protests in Downtown Atlanta, which started after last week's deadly shooting near the future site of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, nicknamed "Cop City." According to the document, the state of emergency is in effect until Feb. 9 unless the governor renews it. (CBS News)
  2. On Feb. 7, the Paulding Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a women's empowerment event. The Empowering Women Leadership Conference will feature KICKS 101.5 radio personality Dallas McCade, along with Lorie Bomar, Shelley Segars, and more. The event will take place at Faith Community Church in Dallas from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Register here. (Paulding Chamber)
  3. Several local businesses in Dallas will be taking part in a special Galentines day event next month. On Feb. 10, beginning at 4:00 p.m., numerous local businesses, including Vintage Wine Bar, Sal's Pizza, Delicious Belgian, and more, will take part in the downtown shopping night. The event will offer special discounts, a pop-up flower cat, themed food and drinks, and photo ops. (Dallas GA)
  4. Do you recognize this duo? According to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, these two suspects (pictured at the link) have frequented several local boutique stores in the Cedarcrest Road area of northern Paulding County in an alleged attempt to commit thefts.   5. The Maude P. Ragsdale Hiram Library will be hosting a Valentine's Painting event next month. On Feb. 9, join in on the fun and make a cute and easy Valentine-themed painting.
