Pilot Killed In Paulding Plane Crash Identified: Sheriff

The pilot of a single-engine plane was killed when his plane crashed in a wooded area in Paulding County. He was the only one on board.

PAULDING COUNTY, GA — The pilot who died in a single-engine plane crash near a wooded area in Paulding County has been identified, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

The pilot — Raymond K. Hicks, 67, of Villa Rica — was killed in the crash, which happened near The Georgian community off Ga. 61 near Villa Rica around 1 p.m. Monday. He was the only one on board the plane, the sheriff's office said.

The single-engine Mooney M20F plane crashed around 12:30 p.m., displaying the tail number N3284F. Preliminary information shows the flight originated out of Earl L. Small, Jr. Field/Stockmar Airport in Villa Rica, authorities said.

According to the Paulding sheriff's office, a 911 caller reported a small single-engine plane that appeared to be in distress, and advised that the small plane appeared to have crashed in the area of the creek on Georgian Parkway between Hanover Drive and Stafford Lane.

Deputies and firefighters from the Paulding County Fire Department confirmed that the plane crashed in a wooded area adjacent to the creek. The pilot died on scene.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are conducting the investigation into why the plane crashed.

The Paulding County plane crash comes days after a pilot was unharmed while crash-landing his single-engine plane near Emory Decatur Hospital in DeKalb County on Thursday. Earlier in October, a small plane crashed at DeKalb Peachtree Airport, killing all four people on board.
