Possible Attempted Child Abduction Reported in Paulding

According to the sheriff's office, the boy said a couple tried to get him to come with them by offering him candy.

The Paudling County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the report of a possible attempted child abduction earlier this week in a northern Paulding subdivision.

The sheriff’s office said Thursday morning that the incident was reported Tuesday afternoon in the Somerset subdivision, where a couple allegedly offered a boy candy to get inside their van.

The mother told deputies the boy was approached after getting off the school bus while he was walking home.

“The mother then explained that the child kept walking home and did not report the incident to his aunt who was home when he arrived,” the sheriff’s office said in a news alert. “According to the mother, the child later reported the incident to her once she arrived home which was later in the afternoon. The mother then called 911 and made a report of the incident with deputies.”

The couple, described as biracial, were reportedly driving a gold minivan. The child was apparently the only person to witness the incident, the sheriff’s office said, which added that officers with the PCSO’s Crimes Against Children Unit interviewed the boy and canvassed the neighborhood for any other witnesses.
