Washington, D.C. β Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) issued the following statement about last weekβs ruling by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, which affirmed that the House of Representatives can challenge unconstitutional actions by President Obama and his administration in court, specifically concerning the administrationβs unilateral changes to Obamacare:
βThis landmark ruling is a major victory for the Constitution and has given new life to our fight against executive overreach. The president cannot rewrite laws and circumvent Congress. Not only will the Houseβs current lawsuit against the Obama administration proceed, but the court has set a new precedent for the Legislative Branch to challenge the unconstitutional actions of future presidents.β

On July 30, 2014, Rep. Graves voted for and the House passed H. Res. 676, which granted the House of Representatives authority to sue the president or other executive branch officials if they violate the Constitution. Accordingly, the House filed litigation on November 21, 2014 because of President Obamaβs unilateral changes to Obamacare.
