  1. Four teenagers were apprehended after breaking into several cars at an apartment complex in Douglasville. The suspects were chased by police and three were taken into custody almost immediately after exiting their vehicle, with all three possessing handguns. The fourth suspect was tracked down and apprehended by a K9 officer. The suspects have been charged with various crimes, including possession of stolen property and possession of firearms during the commission of a felony. (Patch)
  2. A woman was arrested in Dallas after allegedly pretending to be a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) officer. She was charged with impersonating a public officer, a felony, and booked into the Cobb County jail. Authorities obtained a warrant for her arrest after being involved in several incidents including making threats against law enforcement. The suspect was eventually identified from previous incidents and arrested by the Cobb County Sheriff's Office. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  3. Advocates for animal welfare held an animal abuse rally at the Georgia state capitol, urging Gov. Brian Kemp to create a task force that addresses animal cruelty in the state. This comes after a man was arrested in DeKalb County in connection with an animal cruelty case that was caught on video. The video shows a man chasing a dog down a flight of stairs, punching it, and then slamming it against a concrete wall. Police officials have identified Mekhi Jackson as the man in the video and have confirmed that the DeKalb County Police Department has taken over the investigation. (Atlanta News First)
  4. Jenna Jambeck, a Ph.D. environmental engineer at the University of Georgia, has been honored as one of USA TODAY’s Women of the Year in 2022 for her significant contributions in tackling the pollution crisis. Her research on plastic pollution in the world's oceans and her co-founding of the Marine Debris Tracker app have shed light on the magnitude of the plastic problem. She received the MacArthur Fellowship Grant for her work and encourages engineers to stay true to themselves, be creative, and persist through adversity. (Savannah Now)
