  1. Some people simply have nowhere to go on Thanksgiving Day – until now. The Bascomb United Methodist Church in nearby Acworth is inviting people from Paulding County to join them for a day of celebration, community, and good food. The event begins at 12:00 p.m., with dinner served at 2:00 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m., giving you plenty of time to relax and watch some football. There is no charge for the event, although donations are welcome. Reservations are required beforehand to ensure there is enough Thanksgiving food to go around! (AllEvents)
  2. On Nov. 21, a manhole overflow at Peach Crossing Drive caused a major headache for Paulding County staff. Reports of an overflow began around 9:30 a.m. A pump truck was dispatched to stop the overflow, but water department staff soon discovered two-foot rocks had been dumped into the manhole. Staff was able to remove the rocks and flush out the manhole. About 300 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into the nearby Possum Lake during the process. (Press Release Desk )
  3. Local businesses are a cornerstone of our community. If you want to support them, there's no shortage of upcoming events with the Paulding Chamber of Commerce, including AJ Fernandez Cigars Black Friday Sale on Nov. 25, Sip n Shop: Empowering Women on Nov. 29, and Greystone Power Luncheon on Dec. 5. The full list of upcoming Chamber and member events is available at the link. (Paulding Chamber of Commerce)
  4. The Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force has made a major drug bust in Hiram. The drug bust was made last month, but officials have just issued a press release regarding the investigation. A mobile home on Dogwood Path was raided Oct. 27. During the search, agents found two pounds of suspected methamphetamine, 3.75 ounces of heroin, and 2.1 pounds of suspected marijuana. The agents also uncovered a variety of weapons and ammunition at the residence. (Paulding County Sheriff’s Office via Facebook)
  5. House shopping on the internet can feel like a waste of time. Pictures may not show what a house has to offer, and they can sometimes make a fixer-upper look better than it really is. Ready to see what's out there? To help you out, here are the most recent homes on the open-house circuit in the Dallas-Hiram area. The link provides an address, photo, price and bedroom/bath information for each property listed. Happy hunting! (Dallas-Hiram Patch)
