Worst Time to Start Your Commute in Dallas and 5 Other Local Commuting Facts
New U.S. Census data looked at five years of commuting patterns in and around Dallas and Hiram. Here's what they found.

DALLAS, GA — It's amazing the difference that 30 minutes will make on your commute. Leaving earlier or later could mean sitting in the car less, or it could also mean finishing an entire audiobook. New U.S. Census Bureau data looked at 5 years of commuting patterns in and around Dallas and Hiram.
It found that the highest percentage of workers in Dallas start their commute between 6 a.m. and 6:29 a.m. In Hiram, the commutes most frequently started between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m.
That's an early commute than workers elsewhere. Commute times across the state and nationally tend to start most often between 7 a.m. and 7:29 a.m.

Twenty-six percent of commuters in Dallas work a non-traditional shift, heading to work between 9 a.m. and midnight. That's higher than the state and national average of 24 percent. Hiram has fewer working odd hours, with that number at 20.5 percent.
The census released the figures Thursday as part of the American Community Survey, which collected five years of data on more than 40 topics, including several questions about the local commute.

Here are 5 other interesting finding about the commute in and around Dallas and Hiram.
1. Less than 16 percent of Dallas residents work in the city. More than 26 percent of Hiram residents worked in the city.
2. 15 percent of Dallas residents carpool, more than Hiram and Paulding County — both at near 10 percent.
3. 2.3 percent of Dallas residents and 3 percent of Hiram residents worked from home.
4. 49 percent of Dallas workers and more than more than 57 percent of Hiram workers had 2 cars at home.
