Here are the top three stories in Dalton today:
- The Board of Commissioners in Whitfield County approved the construction of a fifth FIFA-sized soccer field at Westside Park. Momon Construction of Calhoun has been awarded the $1.725 million contract, which will be financed through the county's allocation from the 2020 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). Currently, the county already possesses four FIFA-sized fields, while the City of Dalton used its SPLOST funds to develop two fields at Heritage Point Park, alongside existing fields at Riverbend Park and Dalton Junior High School. - The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a bid of $149,792 from Safe Play Solutions to construct a handicapped-accessible playground at Riverbend Park. The design of the playground was chosen by a citizen's committee formed by the county's parks and recreation department. The park, already features a community center, a FIFA-sized soccer field, walking tracks, and multiple other fields. (Dalton Daily Citizen)
- Dalton High, among other state champions, will be celebrated at the annual "Soccertown, USA: A Countywide Celebration of Domination" event, highlighting Whitfield County's recurring success in boys high school soccer state championships. Taking place on Jun. 7 at Burr Park in downtown Dalton, this marks the third consecutive year of the celebration. Alongside Dalton High, Coahulla Creek and Christian Heritage will also be honored.
