Here are the top three stories today in Dalton:

  1. A Dalton dental practice is offering free oral and dental care to Georgia families on May 21. Franklin Dental & Braces, which has an office in Dalton, is partnering up with parent company Benevis for its eighth annual Sharing Smiles Day. The event will offer free dental care such as dental exams, limited emergency care, extractions, and restorative care, with cleanings offered on a limited basis. (US Acrofan)
  2. A shooting occurred early Monday morning at Hamilton Medical Center's Emergency Department involving a Dalton police officer. Police were called after a woman barricaded herself in a patient room, damaging equipment and resisting help. While attempting to arrest the woman, one police officer received injuries to the eyes and shot at the woman. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  3. While multiple Georgia hospitals received high marks in protecting patient safety, one Dalton hospital did not. According to the Leapfrog Group, Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton received a C rating. Other Georgia hospitals like Northeast Georgia Medical Center and Fairview Park Hospital received A ratings.
