Here are the top three stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. On Tuesday evening, a 15-year-old teenager was shot and killed in Decatur. Around 6:30 p.m., police responded to a call at the 3300 block of Peppertree Circle off of Columbia Drive. They found an unidentified male at the scene. As of the writing of this newsletter, no information about what led to the shooting has been released. (CBS 46 News)
  2. The city of Decatur's Environmental Sustainability Board met last Friday and discussed their master plan for parks and recreation. The city has already completed the first two phases of the project and is transitioning to planning its long-range vision for the department. The master plan is expected to be completed by March of 2023. (Decaturish.com )
  3. DeKalb County and the DeKalb County School District will be distributing school supplies and food at seven locations next week. Starting at 9 a.m. on Jul. 30, seven locations will be distributing school supplies and food to the community.
