For Independence Day 2017, Decatur invites the public to participate in its Pied Piper Parade, which begins at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 4.

DECATUR, GA -- Decatur is going red, white and you for Independence Day, inviting the public to celebrate the Fourth of July by hosting a community Pied Piper Parade. The lineup will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave. Pedestrians should gather on the lawn and vehicles will line up in the parking lot.

Civic organizations, nonprofits and neighborhood groups are invited to join in the festivities by making floats and walking down the parade route. At 6 p.m., the parade will commence, followed by the Concert on the Square at 7 p.m. As attendees enjoy the live music from the Callanwolde Concert Band in the Community Bandstand, the fireworks will be prepped to begin at dark (about 9 p.m.).

Weather forecasts call for a chance of rain and thunderstorms Tuesday, but the National Weather Service says the best chances for storms will be between noon and 6 p.m. By Tuesday night, the chance of rain is 30 percent, and that will most likely happen before 7 p.m., letting fireworks displays go off as planned.
