5 Things to Know: July 2, 2012
Today won't be quite as hot as yesterday, but keep your fan handy.

Good morning, Decatur and Avondale Estates. Here are Five Things you need to know about today.
1. It's cooling down -- kind of. You know it's hot when the high temperature is falling to 97 degrees. That's the prediction for today, according to weather.com. The low should be around 75, with a 20 percent chance of rain. The high will be about 93 Tuesday and 90 Wednesday.

2. My, how you've grown. On July 1, went into effect. Now the cities are contiguous, with Sams Crossing the dividing line. Shoppers probably won't notice any difference, but some landowners have complained.
3. Closed for vacation. Most businesses shut down on the Fourth of July, but others take longer vacations. , for instance, will close for two weeks and reopen July 18. If you know of other businesses taking extended breaks, let Patch know.

4. Happy birthday, one day late. celebrated its seventh year in business on Sunday.
5. Public meetings. The Decatur City Commission meets at 7:30 p.m., but they'll get a special tour of the fire station first. The Avondale Estates Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 7 p.m., followed by a meeting of the Architectural Review Board.
