Agnes Scott To Shut Down Foot, Bike Traffic For Spring Graduation

Agnes Scott closes campus to pedestrian and bicycle traffic for spring commencement on May 13. Oprah Winfrey is the keynote speaker.

DECATUR, GA -- For its May 13 spring commencement, Agnes Scott College is closing its campus to pedestrian and bicycle traffic for most of the day, the school announced Wednesday.

Oprah Winfrey will deliver the keynote address at the college's spring commencement and the school is expecting throngs of people to populate the campus on 141 E College Avenue in Decatur.

Foot and bike traffic will be closed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on graduation day, the school said. "In addition, E. Dougherty Street will be closed to vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic during that same time frame. Please anticipate traffic congestion around the college's surrounding streets before and after Commencement between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m.," the college said.

Elizabeth Kiss, the president of Agnes Scott, said that Winfrey's drive is an inspiration and aspiration to the school's young people.

Tickets will be required for entrance to the commencement ceremony, which will take place on the Science Quadrangle, rain or shine, unless the weather is severe, the school said.
