  1. The DeKalb County School Board passed its $1.9 billion budget yesterday. This includes a millage rate of 22.98 mills. The board previously proposed a rate of 23.08, which was opposed by the community and wasn't allowed under the state constitution. The new millage rate equates to approximately $3.7 million in revenue. (Decaturish.com)
  2. A report by Becker's stated that there has been a record high of CEOs, within the hospital settings, exiting. According to that report, there have been 167 CEO moves in 2023. Locally, there is, CEO Jen Schuck of Emory Decatur Hospital, Emory Hillandale Hospital, and Emory Long-Term Acute Care. (Becker's Hospital Review)
  3. Steve Rosa, an employee of the Decatur-based Cintas, received a brand-new Chevrolet truck. Rosa won the truck in April during a customer awareness campaign. He, along with 12 others, was flown to an area close to Cincinnati for a ceremony celebrating the grand-prize winners. (Marketscreener.com)
  4. There have been an escalated number of shootings within 10 major cities across the U.S., reported by the Associated Press. According to the Gun Violence Archive, even smaller towns such as Decatur and Greenville have encountered such shootings. This has prompted Mark Barden, co-founder and CEO of the Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund, to address the shootings. Barden is also the father of Daniel, who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. In his statement he mentioned The Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund, drawing attention to the importance of protecting the youth. (HamletHub)
  5. Degas Wright, the portfolio manager of Decatur Capital Management, was recently accepted into the ArtExpo Basel Show in Switzerland. His original watercolor art painting, ‘Paceline,’ was placed on an electronic billboard within Switzerland's EuroAirport last week. (FIN News)
