- An operation called " Happy New Year" resulted in the arrest of three DeKalb County residents. According to the GBI, which was in charge of the investigation, it partnered with other branches within the GBI to gain multiple residential search warrants between Jan. 23-26 of this year. In total, there were 17 search warrants in Clayton, DeKalb, Newton, Gwinnett, and other surrounding counties during this time frame. (Decaturish.com)
- The third annual student Black History Month art contest is back at the Avondale Alliance for Racial Justice. The theme for this year's contest is "Fighting Black Oppression: Celebrating Change- Makers." The AARJ website states a welcoming to the community to support our youth in their artistic efforts. Submissions are open until Feb. 15. ( https://decaturish.com/2023/02...)
- Due to an expected drop in temperatures, warming centers in the DeKalb County are scheduled to open today and tomorrow. Doors will begin to open at 8 p.m. on both nights. One location will be Fire Station 3, at 100 N. Clarendon Ave. in Avondale Estates. The County is partnering with New Life Church and Community Ministries to open additional centers within the county. - Kinship care is said to be an important part of the foster care system. Within this program, children in foster care are cared for by family members, family friends, or someone they know, opposed to being looked after by strangers.
