Avondale Estates Remembers September 11

Featured speakers at the Friday morning event include Mayor Jonathan Elmore and DCFR Chaplain Micah Lemon

From the City of Avondale Estates

Join the City for a small ceremony on Friday, September 11, from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the Dewey Brown Plaza. City Hall will be temporarily closed, Friday, September 11, starting at 8:30 a.m. and will re-open again Friday, September 11, at 9 a.m. after the ceremony.

The City will observe the 14th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the United States, a day that 2,977 innocent victims lost their lives. Please take a moment on Friday, September 11, to join us to remember the victims, and honor their families and the heroes who came forward during the rescue efforts in the days and weeks that followed. A commemorative display featuring hundreds of miniature American flags has been placed at the Dewey Brown Plaza across the street from City Hall. The City would like to thank Tom Witcher, of Godfather Customs, for providing the flags; Hal Johnson, owner of Godfather Customs, for providing the remembrance banner; and City Public Works associates for placing the flags. Click here for the ceremony agenda. In the event of inclement weather the ceremony will be cancelled.
