Avondale Estates Raising Money For Tennis Pro Who Was Shot

Chris Anderson was shot Nov. 2 outside a restaurant in Smyrna.

People in Avondale Estates are raising money to help pay the medical bills of Chris Anderson, the tennis coach at the city swim and tennis club who was shot last month in Smyrna.

Smyrna police spokesman Michael Smith said Anderson, 49, of Atlanta and another man got into a "verbal dispute" about 10 p.m. Nov. 2 in the parking lot of U.S. Cafe at 4499 South Cobb Drive.

The other man pulled out a pistol and shot Anderson, Smith said. Police charged Kenneth Woodfork, 41, of Smyrna with aggravated assault and battery with a pistol, Smith said.

According to the Avondale Estates electronic newsletter,

Chris does not have insurance and the medical costs are overwhelming. He's applied for assistance through the Victims Assistance Fund, but this will not provide immediate help with the day-to-day cost of living, nor will it cover all of his medical bills. It's our hope that you will lend your support by either taking part in a Round Robin Tennis Benefit or, for our non-tennis players, a 50/50 raffle.
