Beware of Fallen Trees, Decatur Warns Residents

Wind gusts around metro Atlanta could reach 40 mph Monday, the National Weather Service says.

DECATUR, GA -- In the wake of severe thunderstorms that rolled through parts of metro Atlanta over the weekend, the city of Decatur is warning residents about the possibility of downed trees.

Strong wind gusts forecast for Monday could topple trees that have weakened at the roots due to the recent weather, the city said. Wind gusts around metro Atlanta could reach 40 mph at some point during the day, according to the National Weather Service.

The city is warning people to be cautious and not to park their vehicles under trees.

"The ground has been saturated by the recent rains causing the roots of trees to be surrounded by loosened soils. This makes them susceptible to being blown down by wind gusts," the city said on its DecaturMinute blog.
