Beech Drive Closed 3 Weeks Due To Water Main Break

BREAKING: Beech Drive closed; problem stems from contractors installing fiber-optic cables, county says.

DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb County officials have closed a section of Beech Drive for three weeks to repair damage to the road caused by a water main break, the county says.

A massive cave-in that has developed on Beech Drive at Memorial Drive is a peril to drivers, the county said. It has also caused problems with sanitary sewer overflow at a manhole nearby.

Issues arose from contractors installing fiber-optic cables at the site, the county said. They apparently damaged the 36-inch water main, which caused a spot in the road to collapse.
