- Greystone provides over $10 million in Fannie Mae DUS® Financing for Multifamily Property in Atlanta. Greystone is known to be a leading national commercial real estate finance company. The finances loaned for this project are for a 100-unit multifamily property in Decatur. It is a garden-style apartment community comprised of 13 buildings that offer two-bedroom units. "The loan carries a five-year term and amortization, with full-term interest-only payments and 4.5 years of yield maintenance. In addition to the acquisition, loan proceeds enable the borrower to make improvements to the property." (InvestorsObserver)
- MARTA is including the opinion of the community when it comes to the planned transit-oriented development at the Indian Creek Station. There has been a workshop scheduled for Thursday, May 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The workshop will be held at the station; 3901 Durham Park Road. The topics of the session will include station rehabilitation and enhancements which will promote larger ridership. (Decaturish.com)
- Did you know that Avondale Estates is the birthplace of the Waffle House? In 1955, friends Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner opened the chain’s first location in Avondale Estates. Fast forward to the present, there are more than 1,900 locations in 25 states across the country. The original restaurant has been renovated and turned into a museum that reopened this spring. I'm sure we all have had a waffle or two, or at least know someone who has. So, if you're interested in learning a bit more about the historical side of the Waffle House, you can head to its museum and fill up on what's new. (Atlanta Magazine)
- On May 1 during its work session, the Decatur City Commission discussed its Child-Friendly Cities Initiative. The teen leadership team presented their priorities to the city commission.
The team is made up of 28 students. They are in the process of developing a local action plan which will set goals and ideas to implement and benefit the youth. The city is working with UNICEF USA on this initiative. (Decaturish.com) - Best wishes go out to Decatur's International Community School! They are one day away from the IMPACT Awards ceremony. Earlier this year it was announced that the school was named one of 12 finalists across the country for Building Hope’s annual IMPACT Awards. ICS is one of three finalists within the Community Engagement category. There were more than 260 applications from schools in 38 states. IMPACT Award finalists will share 10-minute IMPACT talks. The grant award amounts are scheduled to be announced during Building Hope's second annual IMPACT Summit which is scheduled for May 3 and May 4, at Miami Dade College in Miami. In total, there will be 12 grants awarded ranging from $10,000-$20,000. Best wishes to the students, teachers, faculty, and all who have worked hard to obtain such status. (Patch)
