Decatur Commission To Vote on Rezoning for Grocery

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Decatur City Hall.

The Decatur City Commission meets tonight and is scheduled to vote on a College Avenue rezoning for a grocery store, construction plans for four city schools and improvements on a Dearborn Park trail.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in city hall. It will be preceeded by a 5:30 p.m. dinner session and a 6:30 p.m. work session on the urban forest assessment report. All meetings are open to the public.

Tonight at 7:30p at Decatur City Hall, the Decatur City Commission will consider whether to rezone the parcel and allow some exceptions at 712 West College Avenue.   The owners of the Candler Park Market are looking to build a satellite grocery store on the lot.  (Here are the meeting materials in case you want to get down in the local, organic weeds.)  Last week, the Planning Commission voted in favor of allowing the rezoning from residential to commercial, but voted 3-2 against allowing five exceptions to the project. 

The City Schools of Decatur wants to renovate and expand buildings and is seeking approval to the master site plan at Renfroe Middle, Oakhurst Elementary, the Westchester building and the 4/5 Academy for renovations. The planning commission recommended approval.

The city saff recommends awarding a contract to Willow Construction of Powder Springs for improvements on the Dearborn Park Trail. The contract would be for $59,061.

The project would include construction of an all-weather trail and a small boardwalk area over a wet section of greenway.
