Here are the top stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:

  1. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently updated its COVID-19 vaccine recommendations. The organization now allows more access to COVID-19 vaccines for those who are considered to have a higher chance of getting COVID. The new recommendations allow people to obtain an additional updated (bivalent) COVID-19 vaccine dose if the individual is 65 and older. The original, monovalent, mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, which have been administered, are no longer recommended in the United States. (Decaturish.com)
  2. On April 20, students from 39 schools across Georgia gathered to display their talents. The event took place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center for the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Shuler Awards. The young performers came with high energy and skills. Amongst the winners were Best Performance by a Supporting Performer: Elena Torres of Decatur High School for “9 to 5” and Peyton Nobrega of Milton High School for “Disaster!” This year the competition was hosted by the ArtsBridge Foundation and was broadcast live on GPB-TV.
