- Juneteenth, now a national holiday, is Monday, June 19. The festivities for the national holiday have already begun in some areas and here in Georgia, locals can join in the celebration, which commemorates the day in 1865 when slavery officially ended in the United States. Centennial Olympic Park, 265 Park Ave., will host the Juneteenth Atlanta Parade and Music Festival. There will be live- cultural music, beautiful hand-made merchandise, fun activities, and much more. The events are ongoing today, June 17 and tomorrow June 18. (patch.com)
- Little Shop of Stories is scheduled to present the Decatur Children’s Book Festival. The festival will be held at the Decatur Recreation Center and the Decatur Library on May 4 and 5 of next year. There are many establishments throughout Georgia that have partnered in order for the festival to take place next year. The City of Decatur, the DeKalb Library Foundation, and the Georgia Center for the Book are a few of the establishments in association with next year's festivities. (jwaterhouse@lenzmarketing.com). - For the second year, the city of Decatur has received the 2023 All America City award! The city has been recognized as one of the 10 communities for its efforts in improving the lives of our youth and its ability to include the community in decision-making when it involves issues that affect the community.
