  1. A huge shout-out and congratulations to Decatur's International Community School! Earlier this year it was announced that the school was named one of 12 finalists across the country for Building Hope’s annual IMPACT Awards. ICS is one of three finalists within the Community Engagement category. There were more than 260 applications from schools in 38 states. IMPACT Award finalists will share 10-minute IMPACT talks. The grant award amounts are scheduled to be announced during Building Hope's second annual IMPACT Summit which is scheduled for May 3 and May 4, at Miami Dade College in Miami. In total, there will be 12 grants awarded ranging from $10,000-$20,000. Best wishes to the students, teachers, faculty, and all who have worked hard to obtain such status. (https://icsgeorgia.org/)
  2. There are many fun-filled events going on this weekend and the Soil Festival can be at the top of the to-do list. This Saturday is family day at the Soil Festival. There will be food cooked by the Food Well Alliance and WABE. You will have the opportunity to learn all about urban agriculture, healthy soil, and local food. These efforts support community gardens and orchards. Many other tasteful treats will be on the menu, along with lots of child-friendly activities, yoga, massages, wellness consultations, and more! The event is scheduled to be held at 1115 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5-$25. (Access Atlanta)

Rock of Ages Lutheran Church, located in Stone Mountain, will host the East Memorial Drive Pop of Market on Saturday, June 3, from 1 to 6 p.m. The event will be coordinated by business owner Deanna Cauthen. Cauthen is hoping to revitalize the pop-up which has suffered a decline since the early 1990s. (Decaturish.com)

The Decatur City Commission was scheduled to meet on Monday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. This is the city's regular meeting which was accompanied by a dinner session at 5:30 p.m. and a work session at 6 p.m. The meetings were in person at Decatur City Hall, 509 N. McDonough St., and virtually via Zoom. The topic of discussion was the Child-Friendly Cities Initiative. CFCI is conducted by UNICEF and supports municipal governments in recognizing the rights of children at the local level. (Decaturish.com)
