  1. Hard work and commitment pay off in the form of food, dancing, and celebration. Youth between the ages of 12-18 are welcome to attend "A Winter Teen Bash" on Friday, Dec. 16, at 6:30 p.m. The event is presented by The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, the How Big Is Your Dream Foundation Inc., and Parks and Cultural Affairs, Commissioner Larry Johnson. The event is to be held at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center, 3181 Rainbow Drive in Decatur, in honor of the completion of the first semester of the school year.   2. DeKalb County School Board members discussed the declining enrollment that the county schools continue to face. Hans Williams, an analyst at DCSD, reported that this decline occurred even before the pandemic. During the pandemic, the numbers just continued to drop with many parents opting out to send their children to private schools in different districts. (Decaturish.com)
  3. Certified Senate results are now in. The DeKalb County Elections Board announced the numbers during its meeting on Dec. 12. Results stated Sen. Raphel Warnock defeated Herschel Walker. It was reported that the VRE office on Memorial Drive in Decatur averaged 3,750 voters per day and South DeKalb averaged 2,008 per day. (Decaturish.com)
  4. Our county turned 200 years old on Dec. 9! According to a press release, DeKalb County was formed by joining portions of Fayette, Gwinnett, and Henry counties. The county was named in honor of Johann de Kalb, a native of Germany. (Decaturish.com)
