DeKalb Announces Warming Centers, Road Closures Due to Storm (UPDATED)

DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb County has opened several warming centers and closed a number of roads because of the storm early Saturday morning.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is warning metro Atlanta motorists to stay off the roads after the area got snow and ice overnight. The temperature was expected to hover around 30 degrees for most of the day, according to the National Weather Service.

In DeKalb County, several major thoroughfares were closed so that officials could deal with ice or downed power lines. Below is a list of road closures as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday:

* Peachtree Industrial Boulevard at Tilly Mill Road is closed to general traffic but open to emergency vehicles only.

* Womack Road at Shadow Glen Court -- power line down. Detour

* 1050 Lennox Park Boulevard -- tree down

The following three roads have been reopened Saturday:

* Clairmont Bridge at "Clairmont Bridge"

*I-85 bridge over Pleasantdale Road

* * Chamblee-Tucker over Interstate 85

The DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency has also opened the following warming centers to residents to escape the inclement weather this weekend:

Beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, the following locations will be open:

-- Fire Station 3, 24 N. Clarendon Ave., Avondale Estates, Ga. 30002

-- Fire Station 4, 4540 Flakes Mill Road, Ellenwood, Ga. 30294

-- Fire Station 6, 2342 Flat Shoals Road, Atlanta, Ga. 30316

-- Fire Station 8, 2711 Clairmont Road, Atlanta Ga. 30329

-- Fire Station 18, 4588 Barclay Drive, Dunwoody Ga. 30339

-- Fire Station 25 , 7136 Rockbridge, Stone Mountain, Ga. 30087

-- Memorial Drive Presbyterian, 5140 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain, Ga. 3008

-- New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 6400 Woodrow Road East, Lithonia, Ga. 30038

-- Berean Christian Church, 2201 Young Road Stone Mountain, GA 30088

-- Stronghold Christian Church, 724 Rock Chapel Road East, Lithonia, Ga. 30058

These locations are accepting residents anytime overnight:
