DeKalb CEO Thurmond To Submit Budget To Commissioners Monday

CEO Michael Thurmond on Monday will submit the proposed 2017 mid-year budget adjustment to the Board of Commissioners.

DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond will submit the county's 2017 mid-year budget adjustment to commissioners on Monday, Patch has learned. The proposal includes plans to tackle deficit spending and shore up its fund balance.

Thurmond laid out how he planned to get the county back on track during a meeting with commissioners on June 6.

“With the support of the Board of Commissioners, we will end deficit-driven budgets, encourage transparency, strengthen accountability and build a sustainable fund balance,” CEO Thurmond said in a news release. “I am committed to proposing a fiscal year 2018 budget that will eliminate deficit spending in DeKalb County.”

Included in the budget proposal is “additional funds that will give the county at least one month’s worth of operating revenue in the fund balance,” Thurmond said.

DeKalb needs the budget adjustment to address some key areas vital to the county, he said.
