DeKalb County Sheriff-Elect Tests Positive For COVID-19

Incoming DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox said Dec. 11 that she tested positive for COVID-19 after a state training seminar.

DECATUR, GA — Incoming DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox tested positive for COVID-19 Friday, according to a Dec. 11 press release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

Four other Atlanta-area sheriffs-elect have tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a training session hosted by the Georgia Sheriff's Association for the past several weeks.

"Although the test results are positive, I am not experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19," Maddox said in the release. "I am, in fact, feeling well and hope to continue to overcome any effects that may occur. I appreciate the concerns that have been shared since becoming aware of this situation."

According to the press release, Maddox is self-quarantining at home in accordance with public health guidelines.
