Here are the top stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- The DeKalb County School District is expected to continue its millage rate of 23.08 mills. Taxpayers, however, will pay more in taxes. There will be public hearings held to discuss this matter. The next scheduled hearing is on June 12 at 10:30 a.m. at 1701 Mountain Industrial Boulevard in Stone Mountain. Attendees must register prior to the meeting. (Decaturish.com )
- With two locations already up and running, one at 1358 Maple Street in Avondale Estates, the Metro Atlanta brewery Wild Heaven Beer is scheduled to open another location early next year. The brewery is partnering with an outside source to manage its food program. Their newest location will be at 2935B N Druid Hills Road NE in the Toco Hills Shopping Center. - Pool season has officially begun! The DeKalb Parks and Recreation Department maintains the pool site openings, which will run through Aug. 6. One of the sites is located at 2771 Columbia Drive in Decatur. This particular site is open on Monday, Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.The hours for Sunday and Tuesday are from noon to 7 p.m.(Champion)
- Boys-to-Men/Girls-to-Pearls summer camp is now open. This is a free summer camp. It takes place at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office located at 4415 Memorial Drive in Decatur. The camp is designed to protect children from the dangers of violence and to teach them the value of life lessons. (Atlanta News First)
- DeKalb County Public Library and Inclusivv, are hosting an event to address the importance of belonging in workplaces, academic affiliations, and communities, post the pandemic. The event is titled “Culture & Community: Let’s Talk About Belonging.” It will take place this evening at 6 p.m., at the Clarkston Community Center, 3701 College Ave. Registration and light refreshments will begin at 5:30 p.m. (patch.com)
