DeKalb Officer Struck By Stray Bullet In Decatur SWAT Standoff

A Sunday morning domestic disturbance in Decatur resulted in an officer being wounded by a stray bullet.

DECATUR, GA -- A DeKalb County police officer was struck by a stray bullet early Sunday morning during a SWAT response to a Decatur domestic disturbance. According to the GBI, police responded around 3:30 am to a disturbance in which a man was believed to have been holding a woman hostage. Police were situated in a nearby driveway when they heard a gunshot.

Eventually, the GBI said the female hostage was rescued, although she suffered a gunshot wound. The male suspect was also arrested and taken into custody. One of the officers standing in a nearby driveway was adjusting some equipment when his shotgun discharged, firing a round into the ground and then ricocheting back into him.

The officer, along with the female hostage, were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
