DeKalb Police Chief Withdraws From Top Cop Race In Texas
DeKalb Police Chief Mirtha Ramos was in the running to be the police chief in Austin, Texas, but withdrew her name from consideration.
DEKALB COUNTY, GA — DeKalb County Police Chief Mirtha Ramos was one of seven finalists to be the top cop in Austin, Texas. But it looks like she won't be making the move to the Lone Star State.
Ramos said in a statement Wednesday morning that she withdrew her name from consideration to be Austin Police Department's next chief. She and Celeste Murphy — an Atlanta Police Department deputy chief — were among the finalists for the position, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
"I appreciate the opportunity to continue working with DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond, Public Safety Director Joseph Lumpkin and the courageous men and women of the police department as we use American Rescue Plan funding to implement our strategic plan to transform law enforcement," Ramos said in the statement.

Ramos, whose candidacy for the job was first reported by The AJC in June, did not offer further explanation. It is not clear if Murphy is still a candidate for the Austin job.
