Here are the top stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:

  1. The Avondale Estates City Commission's meeting is scheduled for today, Wednesday, March 8, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Avondale Estates City Hall, 21 N. Avondale Plaza, and via Zoom. The city commission will consider approving a contract with Lexipol for policy services and its wellness program for law enforcers. (Decaturish.com )
  2. Rochelle Lofstrand, will return to her job on March 13 following her reassignment in January. Lofstrand is the principal who was investigated for allegedly not informing the parents of her students with truthful information regarding an incident surrounding a racial slur being used in one of her classrooms. The teacher accused of using the slur in the presence of his students was also reassigned, yet to return to the school. The district has promised it will implement positive changes based on independent findings from an outside source. (Decaturish.com )
  3. Zimbler-DeLorenzo is making her presence known at Perimeter College, where she has been teaching for the past two years. She will be extending her love for teaching outside the classroom and into the Atlanta Science Festival program this month. DeLorenzo is the Faculty Professional Excellence Recipient and her constant teaching and learning will be on display at the festival. Her topic of choice will be Investigation Awaits!   • Congratulations go out to DHS Science Olympiad Team. They placed 3rd at the regional competition and they're now moving on to compete at the state competition next month.   • The Atlanta Journal-Constitution highlighted the journey of Avondale Estates Farmers Market. The market creates a friendly community-based atmosphere, promotes businesses, and has an array of fresh foods. (Avondale Estates Farmer's Market via Facebook)
