  1. The DeKalb Charter Review Commission met on May 17. The meeting was held in order to discuss documents regarding finances to be paid to its chief executive officer, audits, and the obligations and pay for the board of commissions. These topics are covered within sections 8-10 of the Org Act. (Decaturish.com)
  2. Dr. Kristy Beam has resigned from her position as assistant superintendent of the City Schools of Decatur (CSD). The former assistant is now focusing on opening her own charter school. This has been a lifelong goal of hers. The school is to open in metro Atlanta. Beam's resignation goes into effect on June 30, after submitting a letter of resignation on May 19. With the school scheduled to open in the fall of 2026, the planning and designing phases will begin in August of this year. 2024 will be the beginning of the application process.   3. A commemorative wreath ceremony is scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. on May 26. The ceremony is in honor of Memorial Day. City Hall, 21 North Avondale Plaza in Avondale Estates, is the location of the ceremony. The public is welcome to attend. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  4. CEO Michael Thurmond and the Director of Community Development Allen Mitchell have made a step in the right direction when it comes to attempting to rebuild DeKalb County and sometimes you must destroy before you can build. That is exactly what will take place today at 1126 Pluma Drive in Atlanta. Pluma Drive is the second of two properties that have been scheduled to be destroyed, after being considered to be in poor condition or as blight. The first property set for demolition was located at 3659 Radcliffe Blvd. in Decatur. That demolition took place yesterday at 10 a.m. (The Georgia Sun)
